How to Keep Your Upholstery Clean

Dirt, dogs, children, and cats – it seems like the world is determined to keep our homes as messy as possible. Thankfully, though, most any cleaning challenge can be conquered if you have enough time and energy. But there are some problems that are tricky – like how do you keep your upholstery looking nice when everyone is always climbing all over it? After all, it’s not like you can spray it down and scrub it.

Well, M&M POWER STEAM has put together seven great upholstery cleaning tips to help you keep your furniture looking fresh for years to come. Here are quick versions of their tips:

1.) Vacuum: Regularly vacuum your piece, ideally once a week.

2.) Sunlight: Keep your upholstery out of direct sunlight, as it can cause the colors to fade.

3.) Rotation: Rotate your seat cushions to make sure they wear evenly on both sides.

4.) Sitting: Keep the sofa for sitting and avoid activities that might cause stains. For example, don’t let kids draw while sitting on it and try to keep food away from it.

5.) Pets: Keep pets off the furniture – the oils in their hair (and their hair as a matter of fact) quickly turn clean furniture into gross furniture.

6.) Covers: If you have machine-washable seat covers, only wash them in case of accidental spills. Washing them too often can mean they won’t match up with the color of the rest of the upholstery.

7.) Pro: Every six months to a year, have a professional upholstery cleaning. This will help remove any embedded dirt and oils in the upholstery fabric.

Hopefully these tips will help you out as you keep your furniture clean and healthier for longer. Good Luck!
